Dear Parents and Caregivers,Special Newsletter
Dear Parents / Caregivers,
The last week has been outstandingly successful for John Morphett Primary School. The school community is celebrating the following achievements.
* The Annual Literacy and Numeracy Test Results confirmed that the
school's teaching and learning programme results are consistent with teachers understanding of student needs.
|
|
In Year 7, our students' average Literacy scores of 62.2 slightly exceeded the State Average of 62.1. Average Numeracy scores of 66.5 pleasingly exceeded the State Average of 65.0.
In Year 5, our students' average Literacy scores of 54.4 were slightly below the State Average of 55.3. Average Numeracy scores of 56.3 were also slightly below the State Average of 58.2. However, these results were pleasing in that these students are in a class with complex learning needs which require significant additional support.
In Year 3, teachers have been working to support several students who also have complex learning needs. Our students’ average Literacy scores of 42.7 were below the State Average of 50.5. Average Numeracy scores of 44.7 were also below the State Average of 50.8. However, these results are consistent with past years, where our students have been below State averages by similar amounts at Year 3, but made significant improvement in Year 5 and 7, as seen in the results above. Our challenge is to continually improve our student support programmes to ensure that all students who complete Year 7, have similar skills to this year’s group.
As a school, we can never be "satisfied" with Literacy and Numeracy test results as we must always be trying to improve each year. However, the success of our Year 7s this year is pleasing and reflects the
school's commitment to supporting all students to achieve their full learning potential. Year 3 and 5 students will continue to receive this special support focus in 2007. (Outcomes for students with Negotiated Education Plans were not included in the results above)
* The Southern Festival of Music Concert at Noarlunga Theatre last week was excellent. Students from the 5/6 and 6/7 classes have worked all year to reach the high standards required to participate in this quality performance event. Our students were very excited to be taking part on the night and really enjoyed the experience. Congratulations to Helen Nicholas and the Choir for their work this year – members of the school community at last
week's concert were proud to be part of your achievement. In 2007, the school will continue to provide programmes which give students the chance to take part in major community events which showcase the educational excellence of DECS schools.
* The Arbury Park Camp was an outstanding success. Students from all year levels participated enthusiastically in a great learning programme. Behaviour was generally excellent. Camp staff commented very positively on the way our students worked with them, their manners and overall enthusiasm for learning and the opportunity to be at Arbury Park. It was a great week to share and be a part of with students and staff and see the excellent standards of learning, personal care and social interaction achieved by our school throughout the camp. Special thanks to all staff and volunteer parents for giving your time and enthusiasm to make the camp possible and so successful. A final thank you to Kelly Wright and the Fundraising Committee. Your work towards the camp throughout the year was directly responsible for keeping the cost of the week low enough to ensure the maximum number of students could attend Arbury Park.
Everyone's camp participation and enjoyment last week is an achievement that you should feel very proud of and know that the school community is very grateful for you effort.
In conclusion, the whole school community should feel very pleased with the
year's work leading to the success enjoyed in the last week. Our focus on providing the best possible learning and personal development programmes for all students has had very positive results and I look forward to continuing to work with you all to achieve further improvement in the future.
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Megson

Open Night / Arts Extravaganza
|
The show started off with a dance performance by Miss
Suter's class to the song "Night Fever", it was well set out. There were a lot of other performances, including a couple from the choir. Speaking of the music side of it, there was a rock band from MVHS, and Angela & Luke separately played their own instruments in different performances. There was a excellent skit on anti-bullying and many more plays & skits. In the end there was the performance of JRock. It was an awesome night.
